China, Taiwan brace for Typhoon Bavi, possibly the most powerful storm in years

Typhoon Bavi — with winds near 200 kph and an enormous size — is expected to skirt northern Taiwan and hit China’s Fujian this weekend; residents are being urged to stock up and shelter.
China is still reeling from Typhoon Maysak, which killed at least 39 people, caused major flooding and damaged homes and farms.
Widespread disruption and prep: flights cancelled in Japan, fishing boats and farmers racing to secure gear and harvest, and emergency crews on high alert.
