AI-enabled cheating is forcing some schools to go analog

UChicago Law is banning laptops for first-year classes this fall to push students to develop independent thinking as AI becomes common in legal work.
The school is adding in-person proctored exams and oral defenses so students must explain and defend their own work.
Rather than outlawing AI, it’s introducing AI-focused classes and giving students access to legal AI tools to teach responsible, practical use after core skills are built.
