Argentine soccer player loses wife, 2 children in Venezuela earthquakes

Argentine player Lucas Trejo — who plays for Club Sport Marítimo La Guaira — lost his wife and two children in last week’s devastating quakes; teammates and the club have publicly rallied around him.
The disaster was a rare “doublet” (two major quakes 39 seconds apart) that badly damaged La Guaira, left more than 1,400 dead and thousands missing, and has search efforts urgently needing heavy machinery.
Venezuela’s football community was also struck hard: several young players, including 18-year-old Yimvert Berroteran, and foreign residents were among the casualties, deepening the national grief.
