Naming WWI's unknown soldiers over 100 years later

Two World War I soldiers buried at Hooge Crater Cemetery near Ypres were finally identified after more than a century and re-dedicated: John Edgar Springate and Ernest Albert Stevens.
The MoD's "War Detectives" pieced their identities together from regimental records, war diaries and exhumation reports — the lead came from a young Belgian who noticed the graves — and pandemic lockdown research spurred many similar enquiries.
Families were traced and attended an emotional blessing of new headstones, a reminder that every fallen soldier deserves to be named and remembered.
