Heavy rains drench Beijing as China braces for Typhoon Dolphin

Several Beijing districts issued heavy rain warnings (hourly totals >50 mm); Miyun saw about 99.5 mm and authorities deployed 2,000+ staff to help with flooding and landslide risks.
Typhoon Dolphin is closing in on China’s eastern coast, prompting evacuations, suspended ferries and halted construction in eastern and southern provinces.
A separate heat wave is baking central, eastern and northeastern China (temps above 38°C in places) and has also broken records on the nearby Korean Peninsula.
