Rapidly growing wildfire in Los Angeles County prompts evacuations in remote high desert

Fast-moving brush fire in LA County’s high desert (about 45 miles northeast of LA near Piñon Hills) prompted evacuations Friday.
The blaze grew to roughly 2,700 acres by evening and a Red Cross shelter was opened at a local YMCA.
A strong heat dome is driving temperatures toward 100°F and will raise wildfire risk across much of the region.
