- Chase Elliott has withdrawn his name from the NASCAR Most Popular Driver ballot as a tribute to Kyle Busch, who died May 21 at 41 from complications of pneumonia.
- Several fellow drivers — including Kyle Larson, Carson Hocevar and Chase Briscoe — publicly urged fans to vote for Busch instead, with social media posts and comments at the track.
- Elliott’s move echoes his father Bill’s 2001 withdrawal after Dale Earnhardt’s death, and the award is decided by online fan voting.
