Rangers Designate Former NL MVP Andrew McCutchen for Assignment

Former 2013 NL MVP Andrew McCutchen, now 39, was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers after hitting .192 in 37 games this season.
He’s been used mostly as a bench/pinch hitter (21 pinch-hit plate appearances — the most in MLB this year) and the Rangers have seven days to trade, release or outright him.
Texas also signed veteran infielder Nicky Lopez (31), who was recently designated for assignment by the Cubs.
