Mayor who survived assassination attempt shot dead in town hall

Mayor Valentín Lavin was shot dead inside the town hall in Temoac, Morelos — he had survived a previous assassination attempt in January.
The killing is part of a disturbing trend: almost 100 mayors have been murdered in Mexico since 2006, and 14 since the current government took office in October 2024.
