Peru’s president announces that Pope Leo will visit in early November

Peru’s president announced Pope Leo XIV will visit in the first half of November, with planned stops in Puno, Iquitos, Cusco, Pucallpa, Piura and Chiclayo.
The pope has strong personal ties to Peru—he lived in Chiclayo and Trujillo for years and became a Peruvian citizen in 2015—locals have greeted the news with excitement.
The Vatican hasn’t officially confirmed the trip and the itinerary is being kept under wraps for security; Leo has also suggested he might visit neighboring countries.
