Trump administration sued by environmental groups for rescinding definition of 'harm'

Nine environmental groups, including the Sierra Club and Center for Biological Diversity, sued the Trump administration after U.S. wildlife agencies rescinded a 50+-year definition of "harm" under the Endangered Species Act.
Plaintiffs say the change lets agencies ignore habitat degradation that significantly impairs animals' breeding, feeding or sheltering, undermining long-standing legal precedent and protections.
The Interior Department calls the move a rollback of regulatory overreach and says it will defend applying the ESA according to its plain text, part of broader Trump-era environmental rollbacks.
